Today I dug out some of my old journals- from when I lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho- to find the exact date as to the moment I decided to grow my hair natural. Then, I was brutally reminded of my motives for doing so. In the fall of 2005, while I was applying my regular hair relaxer- aka, the perm for curly hair- and during the rinsing process, my hair was literally melting in front of my eyes in the bathtub.
Evidently, my first reaction was of total panic! I rushed out, phone my friend, Debbie-Ann from Kingston who lived in Rexburg, Idaho at the time for some verbal support. In less than two hours, I was at her doorstep so she could assess the catastrophe that had happened to me. The final verdict was rather heavy: most of my straight hair was GONE...yes, melted away. No, this is not a metaphore. I had little hair left from the top of my head.
Bref, this was the main reason that motivated me to stop from using chemicals to adopting a softer way of taking care of my tender scalp... the natural way!
It is taking quite a bit of time to grow longer and longer, but, I am sure to nourish and strenghten my scalp and hair on a regular basis with organic shea & cacao butters, argan & avocado oils. This has worked for my lifestyle. I think that I might keep on doing so for a...very long time.
Last weekend, I was watching this video from one of the blogs that I subscribe to http://newnaturalista.com/video/ and feel a sense of agreement with The Natural Chica chick.
